The Vancouver Canucks could be getting a pair of centres back in their lineup at some point on this upcoming road trip. While a nagging injury to their top prospect in the farm has him leaving Abbotsford’s road trip.
Donnie & Dhali’s Rick Dhaliwal had some updates regarding a trio of Canucks in the organization, starting with Teddy Blueger and Filip Chytil:
“Blueger and Filip Chytil are on the plane to Buffalo. So they’re close. They’re close. I mean, that is a positive right there. Chytil and Blueger are going on the road trip is a very, very big positive.”
Both players have been out of the Canucks lineup since the game against the Washington Capitals on October 19. Power forward Tom Wilson caught Chytil with an open-ice hit as he was coming through the neutral zone, resulting in the Canucks centre suffering yet another concussion.
Blueger scored early in the first period of that game, but was hurt with about five minutes remaining in the game. He has been in and out of Canucks practice, but according to head coach Adam Foote, he suffered a setback.
Dhaliwal also provided an update on Jonathan Lekkerimäki, who has missed Abbotsford’s last four games due to an undisclosed injury.
“Jonathan Lekkerimäki has got some issue that is lingering. He’s missed four games. I do know that he went on the road trip last week to Bakersfield … and something happened. Then he went back and didn’t go to Manitoba, so something’s going on there. So he’s got a lingering issue that needs to be addressed. I don’t think it’s super serious, but I think they’re looking at it.”
Lekkerimäki started the year in the NHL, but was oddly also injured in the game against the Capitals. Once healthy, he was returned to the AHL, where he has been on fire, scoring six goals and 10 points in nine games.
Later in the show, they discussed Arshdeep Bains, the player who was called up to be the extra forward once Marco Rossi and Conor Garland were announced out for at least a week. He has yet to dress in either of the two games since then, and could be the casualty when Chytil and Blueger are ready to return.
The Canucks kick off their six-game road trip on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres. They will also visit the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets before returning home for an eight-game home stand to end the month.
