Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet provided some more information on the injuries surrounding centres Elias Pettersson, Filip Chytil and Nils Aman, winger Nils Hoglander, and defenceman Tyler Myers after the team practiced on Friday.
The biggest news was that Myers is not likely to play in Saturday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks after sustaining an injury on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken.
“It’s going to be day-to-day,” said Tocchet. “Something happened last game. He tried to play through it for, that’s Mysy… so he probably won’t play tomorrow.”
The Canucks got another scare in practice on Friday as well, as Aman crashed into the boards and needed help off the ice.
“[Aman]’s getting evaluated,” said Tocchet. “[The crash] didn’t look good.”
Aman was seen leaving practice with a sling around his left arm.
Tocchet also provided updates on Pettersson and Chytil, as both are still out of the lineup. Pettersson is still day-to-day with his upper-body injury, while Chytil is a bit more doubtful to return from his concussion this season, especially if the Canucks fail to make the playoffs. However, Chytil was able to watch practice.
“[Chytil’s concussion] wasn’t as bad as last year’s, but who knows,” said Tocchet.
The best news was that Hoglander is close to a return after missing the last five games with an undisclosed injury. According to head coach Rick Tocchet, he won’t be playing on Saturday, but he should be back in the next few days.
“[Hoglander] will probably phone me tonight and want to play, but I think we got to just wait a game or two to see for him,” said Tocchet.
“It sucks to just watch and you can’t be on the ice,” said Hoglander “It feels good to be in a normal jersey again.”
The Canucks currently sit in fifth in the Pacific Division with a 34-28-13 record, and are eight points behind the Minnesota Wild for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference with one game in hand. Vancouver will look to end a three-game losing streak when they host the Ducks on Saturday at 1 p.m. PST.
