The Vancouver Canucks held a morning skate at Rogers Arena on Monday as they get set to take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight. After the skate, head coach Adam Foote provided lineup notes and updates on a couple of injured Canucks.
Pettersson “still being evaluated”
Forward Elias Pettersson, who took warmup but didn’t play in the Canucks’ Saturday night match against the Minnesota Wild, is “still being evaluated”, according to Adam Foote.
“We’re waiting for some news,” said Foote. “He’s being evaluated [for an] upper body [injury] still, so we should know tonight or tomorrow morning.”
Pettersson has been good for the Canucks this year, but many fans are still hoping he can produce like the player who put up three straight 30 goal seasons and eclipsed 100 points in the 2022-23 season. Pettersson was a point per game player in the month of November, but was held pointless through his first two games of December. Aatu Räty stepped up big in Pettersson’s absence on Saturday night, scoring two goals and adding an assist in just over 14 minutes of ice time. The Canucks went on to win the game 4-1.
Teddy Blueger’s timeline pushed back until after Christmas
Teddy Blueger, who has played just two games this season, the last of which came on October 19th in Washington, is going to be out a bit longer than expected. Blueger resumed skating in mid-November but experienced a setback in his recovery from his lower-body injury shortly after. That setback will keep him out until after Christmas, according to Foote.
“Hopefully just after Christmas,” said Foote. “He pretty much had to go back to square one with what happened to him a while back there. Really frustrating for him. It was such a quirky movement that he had the first time. I don’t think I’ve ever done it as a player, what he did, we saw it on video. It happened, and whether it’s flukey or not, it’s too bad, because we miss him.”
Final Injury Notes
These updates didn’t come from Foote today, but for those curious, this is the last we heard on each injured Canuck:
Filip Chytil — skating, yet to practice with the team.
Thatcher Demko — participated in half of a practice (as planned) last week. Continuing to progress.
Derek Forbort — experienced a setback to an abdominal/groin injury. Has yet to practice with the team.
Nils Höglander — making his season debut tonight!
