As expected, the Vancouver Canucks have now confirmed the hiring of Manny Malhotra as the 23rd head coach in franchise history.
The Canucks sent out a letter to season ticket holders late Monday night, reading:
“As a Season Ticket Member, we wanted you to be the first to hear the news. Today, we’re proud to announce that Manny Malhotra has been named the 23rd Head Coach in Vancouver Canucks history. Over the past several months, we’ve been laying the foundation for the next era of Canucks hockey. We are strengthening our leadership, deepening our connection to the community, and building a culture that reflects the values of this organization and its fans.“Manny represents all of that.“His relationship with Vancouver is a meaningful one. As a player, he was a key part of the team that reached the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Since then, he has built an impressive coaching resume, earning a reputation as a thoughtful leader, strong communicator, and developer of talent. Most recently, he guided the Abbotsford Canucks to the first Calder Cup Championship in franchise history.“What stands out most about Manny isn’t simply his experience; it’s his ability to bring people together, establish accountability, and create an environment where players can thrive. He understands this organization, this city, and the expectations that come with wearing the Canucks crest.“Today marks an important milestone in our journey forward, and we’re excited to share it with you first. Before the rest of the hockey world finds out, hear directly from Manny as he shares his first message to Canucks fans.”
Jobs became available on the Canucks’ bench shortly after the hiring of Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents of hockey operations and Ryan Johnson as general manager. The Canucks’ new management trio took less than a week to relieve Adam Foote of his duties as head coach, along with assistant coaches Scott Young, Kevin Dean, and Brett McLean. The Canucks have yet to announce who will be joining Malhotra’s staff. More to come.
