The Vancouver Canucks have activated goaltender Thatcher Demko from injured reserve, general manager Patrik Allvin announced Monday afternoon.

As a result, the club has decided to send 21-year-old Arturs Silovs back to Abbotsford, where he’ll play a ton of games and hopefully be even better than he was when the Canucks called him up to the big club.

Demko has been out with an injury since December 1st, when he exited the Canucks’ game against the Florida Panthers in the first period with a lower-body injury.

Demko’s original timeline was six weeks, but the organization exercised as much caution as possible with Demko’s recovery. Demko hoped to back up in the Canucks’ February 18th matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers, but reportedly suffered a minor setback at practice three days prior.

It seems as though Demko is slated to start tonight, but there’s no confirmation that that will be the case just yet.

Along with Demko, it’s believed that Vitali Kravtsov will make his Canucks debut tonight. Kravtsov is expected to skate on a line with Brock Boeser and Jack Studnicka tonight.

Demko is certainly going to have his work cut out for him if he starts tonight, as the Canucks will be without JT Miller, meaning one of Sheldon Dries, Jack Studnicka, or Aatu Räty will serve as the Canucks’ second line centre behind Elias Pettersson tonight.
