Troy Stecher leaves Vancouver Canucks, inks two-year deal with Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have inked former Canucks defenceman Troy Stecher to a two-year contract with an AAV of $1.7-million.
A native of nearby Richmond, Stecher has been a mainstay on the Canucks blueline for the last four years. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of the NCAA’s University of North Dakota, Stecher scored 11 goals and 64 points for Vancouver.
He’s been a fan favourite for years, and now, he’s off to greener pastures. The Canucks did circle back to Stecher, but no deal was able to be made.
According to TSN’s Rick Dhaliwal, there were discussions between Stecher’s camp and the Canucks.
The Canucks were also in on signing RHD Tyson Barrie, but he has instead opted to sign a one year deal with the Edmonton Oilers.
