Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
It was eight years ago today that Chris Tanev scored his first goal in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. It took him a few years for that goal, having already played 62 games over two seasons.
But it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Canucks were tied with the Oilers 2-2 heading into overtime. Daniel Sedin found a loose puck in the offensive zone, slid it to brother Henrik and quickly was able to find a wide-open Tanev pinching to the high-slot.
He took the pass and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Devan Dubnyk for the win. Given it being a game-winner in overtime, he was quickly mauled by his teammates in celebration.
