The offensive outburst in Tuesday night’s 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators was a breath of fresh air for the Canucks, who had scored only five goals combined in their previous four games across an 0-3-1 slump. Ebbs and flows are part of a long NHL season, especially for a team as young as Vancouver; but with how dominant the Canucks looked over their 9-1-2 run before the slump, the scoring drought felt like it came out of nowhere. Elias Pettersson and Tanner Pearson led the way with two goals apiece.
The Canucks are 8-3 on the moneyline in their last 11 games at home per the OddsShark NHL Database.
The Dallas Stars are firmly back on track after a disastrous start to the season. Coming off of a strong campaign in 2018-19, the Stars opened this season with a 1-7-1 skid, allowing 3.63 goals per game while scoring a paltry 2.13 goals per game. The script has been flipped since then as Dallas is 8-1-1 over its last 10 games with 2.9 goals for and 1.6 goals against per game, getting back to the elite defense that made the team so dangerous last year. Dallas is 8-2 in its last 10 road games against the Canucks.
Thursday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 13-2 in Dallas’s last 15 games overall and 4-0 in the Stars’ last four games against Vancouver.
With two of the league’s top-five defenses meeting in this one, goals figure to be hard to come by. The first team to score will have a huge advantage in setting the tempo the rest of the way.
