As the
Vancouver Canucks prepare for game one of their three-game road trip, a Friday evening matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes, a couple of notable players were absent from Thursday’s practice in Carolina.
According to Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy, defenceman Quinn Hughes and forward Drew O’Connor were absent from Canucks practice. Hughes is day-to-day, and is questionable for tomorrow night’s game, while Drew O’Connor needed a sick day.
Hughes exited during the second period of Tuesday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets after appearing to injure his arm after getting tangled up with Jets forward Mark Scheifele. Hughes was in obvious discomfort and went down the tunnel but returned to the Canucks’ bench shortly after. Post game, Hughes said post game that it was just a “weird play” and that he was happy to return just in time for the Canucks’ next power play opportunity. Hughes seemed to finish that game with no issues, logging 28 minutes of ice time and notching three assists as the
Canucks lost 5-3.
Here are the Canucks’ line rushes from today’s practice, according to Dan Murphy:
Kane – Pettersson – Garland
Boeser – Reichel – Sherwood
MacEachern – Räty – DeBrusk
Bains – Sasson – Karlsson
M. Pettersson – Myers
E. Pettersson – Willander
Joseph – Hronek
Mancini (Extra)
Should the Canucks be without Hughes tomorrow night, it will be the club’s fifth game already this season without their captain, as Hughes has already missed four games this season with a lower-body injury.
The
Canucks take on the Hurricanes tomorrow night before wrapping up their road trip with back-to-back games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers on Sunday and Monday. They then return home to take on the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames before heading back out on the road.
