Journeyman forward Cory Conacher, who could most recently been seen playing for the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate the Utica Comets in the Calder Cup final, has signed with SC Bern of the National League-A, a Swiss-based club that is coached by his former Tampa Bay Lightning bench boss and Bond villain Guy Boucher.
The news comes to us from Mark Caswell Jr., a Public Relations staffer with the Comets.
Conacher had a dynamic rookie season in the NHL, and upped his value to the point where he netted the Tampa Bay Lightning Ben Bishop in a lopsided trade. Since flaming out with the Ottawa Senators, Conacher has played games for the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Islanders. He was acquired by the Canucks in an AHL-level trade that also resulted in Dustin Jeffrey being sent to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (what’s a Sound Tiger?).
In 20 regular season games with the Comets, Conacher managed seven goals and 16 total points. He was mostly a non-factor for the Comets in their run to the Calder Cup final, although he did score some big goals in the Western Conference final against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Canucks can retain Conacher’s restricted rights should they opt to extend him a qualifying offer this month.
