The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly going to be looking for potential suitors to take on the contracts of Tanner Pearson and Jason Dickinson, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
In the latest edition of his top 25 Trade Targets list, Seravalli ranked Pearson and Dickinson together at 18th on his list and had this to say:
“Scoop: [Canucks president Jim] Rutherford said recently on the DFO Rundown that the amount of money the Canucks can move off their books will determine how big of a player they are on the trade and free agent market this summer. We know from Pittsburgh that Pearson is not Rutherford’s type of winger. He’s already traded him once. Dickinson is vastly overpaid for his production, but it will cost assets to move him. The Canucks will be working to try and find suitors for both.”
Both players have two years remaining on their current contracts, both of which were signed by previous general manager Jim Benning.
Some would argue that Pearson, who will turn 30 in August, technically outperformed his $3.2 million cap hit by putting up 14 goals and 20 assists through 68 games.
Dickinson, on the other hand, had a first year to forget in Vancouver.
After the club traded a third round pick for him last offseason, Dickinson was slated to be the club’s third-line centre but struggled mightily in just about every way possible.
He was unable to find his game even after the December coaching change, and finished the season with career lows in goals and assists. A change of scenery could be the best thing for both the club and player at this point in time.
