It’s happening! After weeks of back and forth and questions as to what a 2020-21 NHL season could look like, the league and its player association has agreed on a 56-game season.
The move is pending a board of governors call and vote, but the news is huge. There’s one big thing that’s still causing some issues: what happens with the Canadian teams. There was talk earlier this week that the league is considering having those seven clubs, the Canucks included, playing out of the United States.
The league is still working through more details with provinces in order to hopefully clear a barrier, but it does appear that the league wants to have a Canadian division.
According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, training camps would open January 3rd and each team would have a four-to-five man taxi squad on AHL salaries. So in short, it would be a total of 29 players that teams would be able to carry.
