The long-awaited schedule for the upcoming PWHL season is finally here. Now, the countdown begins to the inaugural year for PWHL Vancouver.
PWHL Vancouver kicks off their season at home on Friday, November 21, at 7 pm PST against fellow expansion team PWHL Seattle. It’s sure to be a fiery contest as fans get a first look at these two stacked rosters and what is sure to be a burgeoning rivalry.
Vancouver’s season opener also marks the return of professional hockey to the Pacific Coliseum, which will be the team’s primary venue this season. Formerly the home of the Vancouver Canucks, the arena boasts a capacity of 16,281 and will play host to 13 home games this year. In September, Sports Business Journal reported that Vancouver and Seattle lead the PWHL in season ticket sales for the upcoming season, with all returning markets experiencing an increase in sales over the previous season. To mitigate travel in the still mostly Eastern league, Vancouver and Seattle will play extended home and away stretches, with teams often playing them back-to-back as part of a Western road trip.
Two additional home contests are listed as venue TBD, likely to be part of the league’s Takeover Tour, which sees games played at neutral sites across Canada and the US. This is often a test of future expansion markets, as it was when the Takeover Tour came to Vancouver last season.
The season as a whole spans 30 games and runs from late November to the end of April, with two international breaks. First, from December 8-15, for the Canada-US Rivalry Series and National team camps, and then later from January 29-February. 25 for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Unlike previous seasons, there is no international break scheduled for this year’s IIHF Women’s World Championships. The marquee tournament typically takes place in April, but may be rescheduled for later in the summer in 2026.
One month out from the start of the season, it appears that PWHL Vancouver and PWHL Seattle will play their inaugural seasons under those monikers, with team names and branding to be announced later. While some fans are anxious to hear what the teams will be called, it has become something of a tradition in the PWHL to play the first season under just the name of the city, and it looks like Vancouver and Seattle will carry that torch this year.
