Vancouver Canucks fans flocked to the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ontario with signs criticizing team ownership and management during Wednesday’s road game against the Ottawa Senators.
Some signs took aim at Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini, who recently appeared on Vancouver radio station Sportsnet 650 asking fans to “diss him” instead of general manager Jim Benning.
Of course, there was also a “Fire Benning” sign.
Moments after defenceman @Luke Schenn scored to give the Canucks a 3–1 lead late in the third period, the Sportsnet television broadcast cut to show two fans holding signs bearing the messages “We ♥ U Tucker [Poolman]” and “Extend Benning” with a sarcastic “#ThankYouJim” written underneath — a reference to James Cybulski’s “Thank You Jim” take from last season that has since become an integral part of Canucks Twitter lore.
The broadcast cutting to the “Extend Benning//#ThankYouJim” sign after that Schenn goal is simply outstanding television.
You be the judge of the signs’ sincerity
