Tyler Myers will be a healthy scratch with the Dallas Stars’ playoff life on the line tonight in Minnesota. The 36-year-old blueliner, acquired from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2027 second round draft choice and a 2029 fourth rounder at the NHL Trade Deadline, has struggled through the first five games of the opening round of the playoffs.
The Stars have been outscored 5-0 with Myers on the ice at 5-on-5 in this series and 7-0 in all situations. The veteran defender had a particularly tough Game 5 and was on the ice for two of Minnesota’s four goals in a 4-2 Wild victory in the Lone Star State that has the lower-seeded Wild poised to advance to the second round with a home ice win tonight.
Through the first five games of the playoffs, Myers is fourth among Stars defencemen and eighth on the team averaging 19:41 of ice per game. However, in Game 5, with Dallas trailing by a goal and pushing for the equalizer, Myers played just 28 seconds of the game’s final 12 minutes. He will be replaced in the line-up by fellow veteran Alex Petrovic.
Myers has one year left on a three-year contract that will see him make $3M next season. However, because the Canucks agreed to retain 50% of the salary, the Stars will be on the hook for $1.5M in 2026-27.
Dallas is facing elimination in large part because it has been pummelled at even strength by Minnesota. The Wild has outscored Dallas 11-4 at 5-on-5 in this series. Jason Robertson has three of the four Stars even-strength goals with Wyatt Johnston providing the other, While he has six points in the series, Mikko Rantanen has just a lone assist at 5-on-5. Captain Jamie Benn does not have a point through the first five games.
Tonight’s Game 6 is set to start at 4:30pm PT from Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
