It was 26 years ago today that the Vancouver Canucks opened their 1994 Stanley Cup finals series against the New York Rangers.

Kirk McLean continued on his legendary run with a 52-save performance — the most that had been stopped in the finals since 1971.

The Rangers opened up the game scoring early. 3:32 into the first period, Steve Larmer scored to pop out to a 1-0 lead.

Vancouver and New York traded goals in the third. Bret Hedican scored at the 5:45 mark for the Canucks, as Alex Kovalev got the Rangers lead back at the 8:29 mark.

And with one minute left in the period, Martin Gelinas beat Rangers goalie Mike Richter to tie it up at 2.

With the game going to overtime, Greg Adams finished off game one at the 19:26 mark as the Canucks stole the win at Madison Square Garden.
