Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller scored his 30th goal of the season to give his team a 1–0 lead over the Ottawa Senators early in the first period of Tuesday’s game at Rogers Arena.
In the opening seconds of a @Dylan Gambrell tripping penalty, Miller took a pass from @Quinn Hughes at the top of the left face-off circle in the offensive zone and fired a hard wrister past Senators goaltender @Filip Gustavsson.
Hughes picked up the lone helper on Miller’s 30th goal of the season, which came at the 1:55 mark of the opening frame (and six seconds into the Gambrell penalty).
Miller now has 92 points (30 goals, 62 assists) in 75 games with the Canucks this year. Prior to the 2021–22 campaign, Miller had never scored more than 27 goals in any of his previous seasons with the Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Rangers.
The Canucks entered Tuesday’s action on a six-game winning streak and can draw within two points of the Los Angeles Kings for the final Pacific Division playoff spot with a victory over Ottawa. They remain ahead of the Senators by a 1–0 score with seven minutes remaining in the first period.
