Another day, another positive Jonathan Lekkerimäki update.
If he was playing at this level all season long, we would be drooling over the 2022 first-round pick.
Lekkerimäki’s team is in the Allsvenskan finals against MoDo and went into today’s game trailing 3-1 in the series. The game saw 10 goals between the two teams with Lekkerimäki’s team Djurgården coming out on top with a 6-4 win. Lekkerimäki scored his team’s fifth goal of the game and it was a wicked release from the top of the circle.
It was a quieter game for Lekkerimäki, but he did set up a partial breakaway in the first period from a nice pass at the blue line. He finished the game with 13:19 of ice time, two shots on net and one goal. He was moved down the second line after riding on the top trio all playoffs long. These line combinations may be the way that Djurgården rolls as the playoffs conclude. Lekkerimäki was on a line with Linus Klasen and Lukas Vejdemo.
Djurgården now trails 3-2 in the best-of-seven series to decide the winner of the Allsvenskan league. The winning team will be promoted to the SHL next year and it sounds like the Canucks are hoping that Lekkerimäki is in the SHL next season — whether that be with Djurgården or potentially another SHL team on a loan.
Lekkerimäki is now up to five goals and nine assists for 14 points through 13 playoff games. He is on a four-game point streak and has only gone pointless in three of his 13 playoff games.
Game six of the series goes on Friday and we will have you covered as soon as there’s a highlight to showcase from Lekkerimäki. If Djurgården is able to force a game seven, that game will take place on Sunday and that means we will see the Allsvenskan champion crowned this weekend.
