As training camp for the 2024-25 season wraps up, the Vancouver Canucks will be holding a scrimmage between the two groups. These scrimmage matches are important, as they give players a little bit more of a competitive atmosphere while also giving an opportunity for players who aren’t necessarily lineup locks to showcase their talent to the coaches.
How to watch
A stream can be found on canucks.com at 12 PM Pacific time.
Team Blue consists of Conor Garland, Filip Hronek, Nils Höglander, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Elias Pettersson (defenceman), Derek Forbort, Arturs Silovs, Elias Pettersson (centreman), Vilmer Alriksson, Mark Friedman, Aatu Räty, Tyler Myers, Kirill Kudryavtsev, Riley Patterson, Jake DeBrusk, Sammy Blais, Nate Smith, Ty Young, Nils Åman and Linus Karlsson.
Team White consists of Jett Woo, Brock Boeser, Carson Soucy, JT Miller, Arshdeep Bains, Danila Klimovich, Danton Heinen, Pius Suter, Jiri Patera, Phil Di Giuseppe, Ty Mueller, Quinn Hughes, Kiefer Sherwood, Noah Juulsen, Nikita Tolopilo, Max Sasson, Vincent Desharnais, Tristen Nielsen, Christian Wolanin and Daniel Sprong.
Who to watch
Jonathan Lekkermäki
This management group will likely not rush Lekkiermäki’s development and start him down in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Canucks, but watching him alongside Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk is only going to tease Canucks fans. Lekkerimäki and his linemates have been ripping up camp, showing early chemistry and capitalizing on their chances.
Danton Heinen / Daniel Sprong
Heinen has benefited from playing on the left side of Miller and Boeser. Boeser spoke about how, despite only skating alongside Heinen for a few days of training camp, the trio has already developed chemistry. However, if they aren’t flowing in-game scenarios, don’t be surprised to see Sprong get a shot elevated in the lineup if they want some more offence out of that line.
Vincent Desharnais
Noah Juulsen has mostly been playing with Hughes, but he’s not a guarantee to make the opening night roster. The 6’7″ defenceman they signed for $2 million per season is likely to get the nod and should get some runway with Hughes to see if that can translate to the regular season. With Hronek on the other squad, it’s audition time for Desharnais to see if he can gel with the Canuck captain.
