@Elias Pettersson may not yet be back at his best, but he managed to lift his Vancouver Canucks to victory in the shootout against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night.
Pettersson was the first shooter for either team in the skills competition. The 23-year-old centre skated slowly toward Winnipeg’s net, rapidly moving the puck side-to-side as he approached Jets goaltender @Eric Comrie.
Then, at the last second, Petterson feigned to his left and dragged the puck over to the right with only the top hand on his stick. Comrie attempted to stop the puck with his outstretched left pad but was forced to watch hopelessly as it slid across the goal line.
Here’s the video of Pettersson’s shootout goal, as posted to Twitter by CanucksArmy‘s own Lachlan Irvine:
Aside from Pettersson’s goal, both netminders were perfect in Friday’s shootout.
Canucks keeper @Thatcher Demko managed to stop all three of Winnipeg’s shooters en route to his 11th win of the season (and his fifth in his last six appearances). He added 34 saves in regulation time.
One final save by the future Hart Trophy winner, and the #Canucks win again.
Nils Höglander led the way with two goals in the first period for the Canucks. @Conor Garland also scored for the home side; @Blake Wheeler, @Kyle Connor, and @Mark Scheifele responded for the visitors.
The Canucks remain undefeated in their three games under new head coach Bruce Boudreau. They’ll look to keep that streak going on Sunday when they welcome the sizzling Carolina Hurricanes to Rogers Arena.
