If this year is any indication, Brandon Sutter’s bachelor pad in Vancouver might have to be a wing at St. Paul’s Hospital. Both he and Alex Edler suffered injuries in last night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche, and from the sounds of it, neither will be back anytime soon.

Edler’s injury has been confirmed to be a fractured fibula, which would make 2-3 weeks a pretty miraculous recovery time. Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks suffered a very similar injury on October 13th this year and didn’t return for nearly two months, playing his first game on December 8th. A similar injury took Zdeno Chara out of action for the end of last season and the entirety of the playoffs, and fibula breaks (a little more severe) have previously sent Derek Stepan and Lance Bouma out for months as well.
It seems that Edler is due for a disappearance at least once a season, so this wasn’t particularly shocking to see, but it’s still a shame all the same.

As for Sutter’s broken jaw, we’ve seen a similar situation arise with Dan Hamhuis this year. Hamhuis suffered the same injury against the Rangers on December 9th and didn’t return until last Saturday; yesterday was just his second game back. Others who have suffered broken jaws include Drew Miller (still out for Detroit after suffering the injury on December 22nd), and Derek Stepan (AGAIN?!), who, thanks to the ridiculous that is playing through severe injuries in the playoffs, threw a huge face shield on and scored two goals four days later.
Sutter, of course, just came back from a two and a half month long disappearance after undergoing Sports Hernia surgery. Needless to say, this hasn’t been an easy season for the first year Canuck.

The Canucks will soldier out without them and take on the Arizona Coyotes tonight in Glendale. Puck drop is at 6:30 PM.
