The trade rumours surrounding the Vancouver Canucks won’t be stopping anytime soon; that much is clear.
Just a day after the club scratched Tyler Myers in their game against the Winnipeg Jets, TSN’s Darren Dreger has brought up another name: Brock Boeser.
According to Dreger, Boeser’s name is out there in trade discussions. That, we had already heard rumblings about earlier this month. But what we didn’t know just yet was the second bit of information that Dreger reported — that Boeser would be willing to waive his no-movement clause “if there’s a fit.”
“It’s interesting to me that Brock Boeser’s name is out there,” Dreger said on Thursday’s Edition of Insider Trading. “I mean, this guy just signed a seven-year contract with the Canucks on July first. Now, is he willing to move? Well, he is, if there’s a fit that makes sense to Boeser and his family. He’s a playoff performer, so teams will express some interest.”
Boeser, who recently proposed to his longtime girlfriend — whom he met in Vancouver — signed a seven-year deal with the Canucks this past offseason. The contract carries a yearly cap hit of $7.25 million and a full no-movement clause for the first four years. After that, Boeser will have a 15-team no-trade list. Through 51 games this season, Boeser has put up just 12 goals and 14 assists, and is on pace to finish with a career-low 39 points. The Canucks originally selected Boeser at 23rd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Boeser, who has long been known for his strong shot, scored 40 goals during the 2023-24 season before adding seven more through 12 playoff games. Boeser was one of the Canucks’ best players during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, finishing with 12 points through 12 games and some very timely goals.
