The Vancouver Canucks are the talk of the town around the National Hockey League nowadays. There have been multiple rumours that the club was receiving calls on their star centremen, JT Miller and Elias Pettersson, as the locker room issues became public knowledge.
And this has now been recognized by Canucks management.
Donnie & Dhali’s Rick Dhaliwal reported on Monday morning that the organization made a decision six weeks ago that they had to move on from one of the two forwards:
“Six weeks ago, the Canucks decided that the dynamic of Pettersson and Miller wasn’t working. They had to depart with one of them or both. Six weeks ago was the decision made by the organization, that one of these two guys, we’ve got to change the chemistry. We’ve got to change the room. We’ve got to change something because it’s not working.
“One of these two guys most likely is going to have to be traded to change the dynamic of the club, especially in that dressing room.”
The organization seems to have decided to move on from JT Miller. Dhaliwal reported that Miller and his camp have not asked for a trade and that Pettersson has approached the team, informing them he wants to stay.
During an intermission on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman spoke about a potential Miller trade on Saturday that nearly happened between the Canucks and the New York Rangers.
The details of the trade have not been confirmed; however, according to the Athletic’s Thomas Drance, centreman Filip Chytil, defenceman Ryan Lindgren, and a conditional first-round pick were believed to be the package coming back to Vancouver.
The trade was close enough that the Canucks called Miller and told him he would not be playing on Saturday night against the Oilers, per Dhaliwal.
Other teams that have reported interest in Miller are the New Jersey Devils, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Dallas Stars, as Friedman said today in 32 Thoughts — The Podcast.
We’ll see where this all goes. Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin will conduct a media availability today at 11:45 AM.
More to come.
