Chris Gear promoted to Assistant GM, Chief Legal Officer

The Vancouver Canucks have announced the promotion of Chris Gear to the clubs’ Assistant General Manager and Chief Legal Officer.
Gear, 47, has worked within the hockey operations department managing player contract negotiations, the club’s affiliation with the Utica Comets and the business operations of the team.
A nine-year veteran within Canucks Sports & Entertainment, Gear has previously worked as Vice President and General Counsel and will continue to oversee legal and insurance matters relating to the organization.
“We’re fortunate to have a very talented and experienced Hockey Operations staff,” said Canucks GM Jim Benning, who Gear will be working closely with.. “Chris Gear has made a significant contribution to our Hockey Operations executive over four years and we’re pleased to recognize his efforts and have him continue to provide his experience and support.”
Gear previously worked for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympics and spent six years with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.
