The undefeated Utica Comets will be welcoming the 2-3-2-0 Binghamton Devils, (New Jersey affiliate) for game number six today at the Adirondack Bank Center. The two clubs squared off in game one of the season in which the Comets came away with a 4-3 win.
The Devils last played to a 4-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while the Comets are coming off of a 7-1 stomping of the Rochester Americans.
Binghamton’s power play has gone 5/29 this season, giving them a success rate of 17.2% with the extra man. Their penalty kill has allowed four goals while down a man 23 times for an 82.6% success rate. The Comets, for their part, have gone 3/22 on the power play, giving them a success rate of 13.6%. Their penalty kill has fared better, killing off 23 of 25 man-down situations for a success rate of 92.0%.
Brett Seney leads all Bingo scorers with five goals and four helpers to give himself nine points in seven games. Chris Connor sits second with three goals and five assists, giving him eight points in seven games, while Ben Street rounds out their top three with identical totals to Connor.
Goaltender Evan Cormier and winger Mikhail Maltsev lead the Devils’ rookie crew with one assist each through four games played. Defenders Brogan Rafferty and Olli Juolevi lead the Comets rookies with three points each through five games.
Reid Boucher wears the scoring crown in Utica with his eight goals and two assists through five games, while Nikolay Goldobin is right behind him with one goal and eight assists in four. Sven Baertschi rounds out Utica’s top three with two goals and six helpers in four games played.
The Comets have outscored their competition by a 29-11 margin this year, while the Devils have scored 20 times and have given up 24 goals against.
Season Series
The two clubs have squared off once this year with the Comets coming away with a 4-3 win.
Kole Lind leads the series with three points, while Reid Boucher is right behind him with two. Nathan Bastian, Mikhail Maltsev, Julien Melchiori, Josh Jacobs, Michael McLeod, Joey Anderson, Brett Seney, Chris Connor, Carter Camper, Olli Juolevi, Lukas Jasek, Carter Bancks, Justin Bailey, and Guillaume Brisebois have each picked up a point in the season series as well.
Neither team managed to score a power play goal in the first game as the Comets went 0/5 while the Devils went 0/3 with the extra man.
Roster Moves
The Comets saw the return of Ashton Sautner this week as the parent Canucks have assigned him back to Utica, while Adam Gaudette was also sent to the Comets in order to get some minutes. The Canucks have also assigned rookie defender Mitch Eliot to Kalamazoo to get him into some game action as well.
