The Canucks used their seventh pick of the day in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft on Oshawa Generals defenceman Matt Brassard. That was their last trip to the stage, ending one of their best drafts in recent memory.

Brassard, 18-years-old, is a draft-plus-one player, having been passed up in last year’s draft — it’s worth noting that he’s an early birthday though and on the younger side of draft-plus-one players. In 62 games split between the Barrie Colts and Oshawa Generals, Brassard chipped in with 32 points (12 goals and 20 assists).
Shane Malloy on Matt Brassard: "A defense first pass and big-bodied player. He's matured and is willing to get greasy." #Canucks

I wouldn’t consider Brassard a high upside pick, but he’s certainly a reasonable bet in the seventh round. Barring any trades, Brassard will join the Generals for a full season next season on what should prove to be a very strong OHL team. Here’s to hoping he’s part of driving that success.
