Canucks recall Biega, leaving concern for Tanev

Dec 1, 2015, 13:03 ESTUpdated:
The Vancouver Canucks have announced the recall of Alex Biega from the Utica Comets, continuing the team’s seemingly eternal cycle of injury fill-in assignments on the point. The recalling of the 25-year-old is likely connected to Chris Tanev’s suspected injury.
Biega has been a steady option for the Comets defence this year, playing in 14 games and picking up a goal, five assists, and a +2 rating. Five of these points have come since his last recall on November 8th, and four of those have come in his last five games, including a two-point performance against Lehigh Valley on November 25th.
The right-handed former Buffalo Sabre played in one game during his last stint, picking up a shot in 25 shifts and 18:04 of ice time.
Biega comes up to replace Chris Tanev, who he coincidentally filled in for during his last stint. Tanev’s November disappearance appeared to be the result of a damaged finger and didn’t keep him out of the lineup for long at all, and it appears that the Canucks mainstay may have suffered a similar injury last night.
The Canucks take on the Los Angeles Kings tonight at 7:30 PM. Whether or not Biega will be joining the on the ice for this one is currently unknown.
