Folks, the day has finally come. Tonight, Filip Hronek will suit up for the first time since the Vancouver Canucks traded for him ahead of the March 3rd trade deadline.
The Canucks shipped a first and second round pick out to the Detroit Red Wings in order to acquire him, so naturally, fans are very eager to see what the 25-year-old blueliner can do. Head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed that Hronek will be in the lineup against San Jose tonight.
There was no morning skate, so as far as we know, Hronek will be the only change to the Canucks&#8217; lineup. Hronek did skate alongside Kyle Burroughs at practice earlier this week. There&#8217;s certainly a chance the right-shot Hronek could line up on the left side tonight.
Elias Pettersson talked about Hronek joining the Canucks and making his debut tonight.
&#8220;Yeah, very excited,&#8221; said Pettersson. &#8220;It&#8217;s always been a good battle playing against him, so I&#8217;m happy he&#8217;s on the team now. I&#8217;m excited about what he brings, he&#8217;s a very good player, so I&#8217;m excited for tonight.&#8221;
Pettersson was also asked what he&#8217;s most proud of this season when it comes to his game.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s play at both ends of the rink,&#8221; said Pettersson. &#8220;My two-way game. I think that also has led to me scoring more points at 5 on 5.&#8221;
Pettersson sits seventh league-wide in even-strength points with 60 of his 89 points coming at evens.
Pettersson also talked about the challenges he faces now that the book is very much so out on how lethal of a shot the 24-year-old possesses.
&#8220;Teams usually have a guy standing on me,&#8221; said Pettersson. &#8220;I try just to read when I have a little bit of time to shoot it, but most of the time, I have a guy right on me. When it happens, I have to find a way to figure out a way to shoot more. I haven&#8217;t had that many power play goals this year, definitely want to have a few more there, but it&#8217;s things I can work on.&#8221;
