The Vancouver Canucks will see two of their top prospects team up in the OHL in relatively short order.
The London Knights have traded Canucks goaltending prospect Aleksei Medvedev to the Peterborough Petes for a 2028 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2030 fifth-round pick.
On Friday’s episode of Sekeres & Price, Daily Faceoff’s Jeff Marek reported that Medvedev and his camp requested a trade after the Knights acquired goaltender Arvin Jaswal from the Barrie Colts.
Since being drafted by the Canucks in 2025, the second-round pick has struggled with the Knights. He’s only played eight games so far this season and has a .891 save percentage and a 3.43 goals against average. These numbers mirror his production with the Knights last season, when he posted a 3.26 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.
Medvedev will join a Petes team that is currently last in the East Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference with an 8-10-0 record. The Russian netminder will battle for the starting role with three Petes goaltenders who have struggled to run away with the job. All three goaltenders (Matthew Koprowski, Owen Nelson, and Masen Johnston) the Petes have iced this season have an above-3.00 goals against average and a .900 save percentage or below this season: 3.16 GAA, .893 S% for Koprowski, 3.44 GAA, .900 S% for Nelson and .394 GAA, .862 S% for Johnston.
Canucks fans have grown concerned about Medvedev’s recent play. The trade gives the 19-year-old netminder a fresh start and a bit of familiarity. Medvedev will join fellow Canucks prospect Adam Novotný in Peterborough. Novotný is top-10 in OHL scoring so far this season.
Medvedev will have the opportunity to make his Petes debut as early as Sunday, November 8, when Peterborough welcomes the Niagara IceDogs to town. The Petes play three times next week, with a big Canucks-friendly matchup on Friday, November 13, when they take on Brooks Rogowski and the Oshawa Generals.
