Canucks Player Power Rankings – November 14th, 2016

Nov 14, 2016, 11:00 ESTUpdated:

The Canucks scored a whopping 11 goals this week and won two games! Do they look great? No. But they’re breaking slumps, making diving saves, and even scoring career-firsts!
1. Troy Stecher:
These power rankings don’t have many rules, but one rule is that if you score your first NHL goal, you automatically get to be #1. Troy Stecher is making the most out of Chris Tanev’s absence and has been a bright spot for this relatively dismal team. The hometown kid made fellow British Columbian Jamie Benn look silly before he tied the game up, leading to an OT victory. The celly is pretty good too.
2. Henrik and Daniel Sedin:
Gone are the days where this happens every night, but gosh, are these two still good at hockey.
3. Bo Horvat:
When Bo Horvat scores at Rogers Arena, Young Jeezy’s Put On (For My City) plays and the title is just so fitting. Horvat scored a beautiful goal to get the Canucks on the board on Sunday and continues to make a case for himself as the team’s MVP.
4. Loui Eriksson:
On Tuesday, Loui Eriksson finally did it. He scored a goal as a Vancouver Canuck in the opposition’s net. Then on Sunday, he did it again. Have the floodgates opened? We’ll see.
5. Alex Burrows:
Years ago, it is said that a single Alex Burrows performance saved Alain Vigneault’s job. He may have done the same for Willie Desjardins this week, not once, but twice. Burrows had two goals in the Canucks victory on Broadway and played a huge role in Sunday’s comeback victory. Jobsaver sounds less cool than Dragonslayer, but it fits just as well.
6. Markus Granlund:
Markus Granlund scored a sweet OT winner against Dallas and his celebration is very similar to what my dad does when he’s listening to Bruce Springsteen.

7. Jacob Markstrom:
It feels unfair having the goaltenders so far down this list when they’ve had to deal with a non-existent offence so many nights. Jacob Markstrom was stellar in Tuesday night’s slump-ending win over the Rangers.
8. Ryan Miller:
Ryan Miller also got to be a part of a win this week, but the coolest moment of his week came in the dying seconds of a loss in Detroit. You know you’ve done something sick when accounts like @DrunkEichel, @BarSouthNCelly, and @Ginohard_ are reposting other people’s gifs of your play.
9. Sven Baertschi:
Sven Baertschi was another forward who bumped the slump and scored a goal this week. More importantly, he’s got the most adorable admirer ever:

10. Brandon Sutter:
Brandon Sutter has been given ample opportunity to succeed this season, and it has not always worked. Sunday afternoon, it did!
11. Alex Edler:
Without his regular pal Chris Tanev, Alex Edler has been taking a break from his No Talking policy and encouraging his new friend Troy.

12. Nikita Tryamkin:
Nikky T has continued to look like an NHL player this week. He has also entered into a friendship with Troy Stecher, which is great because he is tall and Stecher is small.
13. Michael Chaput:
Michael Chaput got a point this week! I’m not sure anyone noticed, but it did happen.
14. Brendan Gaunce:
Brendan Gaunce continues to fly under the radar. He’s not the problem here, so I don’t know what else to say about him. Keep working hard, Brendan.
15. Luca Sbisa:
Luca Sbisa was Luca Sbisa this week.
16. Ben Hutton:
Last year, Ben Hutton spent a lot of time with Chris Tanev and was carrying almost no expectations. This year, he’s spending almost all of his ice time with Erik Gudbranson, and fans are expecting good things from him. It hasn’t been an easy run for Hutton, but at least Sunday’s win gave him an opportunity to chirp his old roommate Devin Shore:
17. Derek Dorsett:
It’s not Derek Dorsett’s fault that he gets deployed the way he does. It does get pretty confusing, though.
18. Erik Gudbranson:
It hasn’t been a banner week for Erik Gudbranson, defensively. Or offensively. But he did pay tribute to former Canuck Kevin Bieksa by pulling off Bieksa’s patented sliding defensive tactic.
19. Jack Skille:
Jack Skille’s spot in the line-up continues to confuse me, but he also god his first point as a Canuck! So there’s that at least.
20. Chris Tanev and Jannik Hansen:
These two are injured and missed.
21. Alex Biega and Philip Larsen:
These two combined for one game this week and aren’t really missed.
22. Jake Virtanen:
Jake Virtanen got demoted and then didn’t do a whole lot and then he got promoted and no one in the Canucks organization really seems to know where they want him.
