Canucks Player Power Rankings – Nov. 2nd, 2015

Grainne Downey
Nov 2, 2015, 12:00 ESTUpdated:
With Sedin scrums, rookie initiations, Luca Sbisa game winners, and a first career goal, there were difficult decisions to be made this week. Read past the jump to find out if Henrik’s fists are enough to overtake Jared’s wrists(hots). That was a rough one.
1. Brendan Gaunce:
B.Gauncé (please accept that this is the best nickname he will ever have) is the latest Canuck to score his first career goal this season. It definitely wasn’t the prettiest, but it counted, so he sits on top this week!
2. Jared McCann:
For a few hours, Jared McCann’s 5th goal was like Eric Stefani: it left no doubt. On Sunday, McCann’s doubts briefly returned as the Canucks tricked him and Virtanen into thinking that they were about to be sent back to junior. They weren’t and are both in Vancouver to stay. Overall, not a bad week for McCann. Plus he scored two goals on some guy named Carey Price.
3. Jake Virtanen:
Virtanen has yet to reach that elusive first goal bump to the top spot, but with his roster spot secure, it’s bound to happen soon. In the meantime, there’s always murders:
4. Daniel Sedin:
D. Sedin is leading the team in points and doing his best to keep the powerplay watchable:
5. Henrik Sedin:
H. Sedin, while also contributing offensively and all that is out here throwing punches. For real.

6. Radim Vrbata:
Looking more and more like the Vrbata of old, Radim put away 2 goals this week. The deftness!
7. Alex Edler:
Östersund’s finest scored his second goal of the season and actually smiled this week!
8. Alex Burrows:
Burrows scored his first penalty shot goal
9. Chris Tanev:
Tanev has recently taken to coming in like a wrecking ball. This is cool as long as he doesn’t go full Miley and bleach the flow.
10. Ryan Miller:
Miller continued his nice start by holding off the formidable Canadiens and by surviving the Stars’ onslaught at the start of Thursday’s game. Here’s one of his best:
11. Richard Bachman:
Bachman finally got his start and it was a good one! With Bachman’s first win as a Canuck came a slew of B.T.O. puns. Obviously.
12. Bo Horvat:
Horvat’s play isn’t coming with results yet, but come they will. For now, he’s scoring nice friendship points with the other youths:
13. Ben Hutton:
Ben Hutton’s pro status means that he didn’t go through the emotional upheaval that his fellow rookies endured. This is too bad because it may have provided a glimpse at non-smiley Ben Hutton, a phenomenon so far unseen by Canucks fans.
14. Yannick Weber:
With Dan Hamhuis missing time this week, Weber suited up alongside Hutton and the small sample has been pretty great. They are clearly the best Weber-Hutton combo in the league. Sorry, Predators!
15. Luca Sbisa:
Luca Sbisa scored at least three goals on his own net this week, but he also scored a game-winner on Carey Price. He was even the first star against Arizona! What a week for Luca!
16. Brandon Sutter:
Occasionally fun, occasionally invisible, Sutter (7 points) is at least ahead of Kesler (2 points) and Bonino (3 points) on the list of players with any level of connection to the Kesler trade.
17. Jannik Hansen:
With all due respect to his fine week on the ice, the most memorable part of Jannik Hansen’s week was when he got smacked in the face by a Dallas Star and was escorted off the ice by a cop, making Hansen look like a key player from a grisly crime scene.

18. Matt Bartkowski:
The absence of Hamhuis also meant that the Sbisa-Bartkowski pairing happened. They were exactly as wild as you’d expect them to be.
19. Derek Dorsett:
Dorsett made a legitimately nice play to seal the deal against Montreal, getting Jake Virtanen his first NHL point!
20. Sven Baertschi:
Though he was scratched against Arizona, Sven could see powerplay time soon. Such a roller coaster with this guy.
21. Brandon Prust:
Poor Brandon Prust was having a nice game against his former team when he hurt his ankle. He’ll miss 4-6 weeks but hopefully will continue with his in-game tweeting.
22. Adam Cracknell:
Cracknell has filled in nicely when needed and was the second star on Friday night! He and Luca Sbisa are gonna turn this franchise around.
23. The injured ones:
As usual, the guys who didn’t play are hanging out down here. Here are two of them with a very cute monkey!
