The Vancouver Canucks have selected a pair of defencemen with their two third round picks at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
At 75th overall, the Canucks selected Hunter Brzustewicz, a 6’0″ tall strong puck-mover out of the OHL.
CanucksArmy’s prospect guru Chris Faber is on the draft floor in Nashville and is doing a live blog through rounds 2-7 where he gives his instant analysis on each pick and talks about who he would have taken with the talent still on the board. Here’s what Faber said about Brzustewicz:
Brzustewicz had 57 points in 68 games this past season. We like the pick a lot as he is an offensive talent who could improve on some of his defensive play but also isn’t really bad at anything. His skating is above-average and it’s more about just building up his overall game — there’s not a weakness that needs to be addressed.
With the 89th overall selection, their second pick of the third round, the Canucks selected another defenceman, this time a left-handed one, in Sawyer Mynio.
Mynio tallied five goals and 26 assists through 68 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL this past season. Hailing from Kamloops, BC, Mynio stands at 6’1 and is listed at 173 pounds. Here’s what Faber said about the Canucks’ pick of Mynio:
Mynio is a good local kid from who moves the puck well, isn’t incredible at anything, but doesn’t really have a major weakness as well. If he improves his skating, he has a solid chance of becoming a depth defenceman.
Mynio was selected with the pick the Canucks got from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Luke Schenn trade at this year’s trade deadline. The Canucks have three picks in the fourth round, so keep it locked on CanucksArmy.com for more updates!
