As we approach the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, nearly everyone and their dog has taken part in some form of a mock draft. Mock drafts are an interesting beast as they require taking into consideration many factors including ranking prospects by talent, where teams might finish (if pre-Stanley Cup Final), and what teams are looking for in prospects.
I’ve found a number of different mock drafts to who is likely to fall into the Canucks’ hands.
“With the mock 23rd overall selection, the Vancouver Canucks proudly select…”

Some interesting things to note:
- Most of these picks I would be happy with at 23 (depending on whom is still on the board at the time).
- Early on, drafts was much more focused on the Canucks drafting a forward – reflective of their traditional drafting philosophies.
- More recently defencemen are showing up in the more recent drafts – reflective of how unsure people are if Benning wishes to focus on the lacking defensive depths.
- Oliver Kylington is a name that pops up most often for defencemen – a name I think would be quite good to bolster the Canucks defence prospects.
- A few players that show up multiple times:
- Jansen Harkins x5 (Rated #22 in our Draft Profiles series)
- Oliver Kylington x3 (Rated #13 in our Draft Profiles series)
- Evgeni Svechnikov (Rated #11 in our Draft Profiles series)
- Nick Merkely x3, but none recently (Rated #15 in our Draft Profiles series)
- A couple off the board picks…
- Jacob Larsson (Rated #45 in our Draft Profiles series)
- Denis Guryanov (Rated #36 in our Draft Profiles series)
We would be happy with the majority of these picks, as it seems pretty difficult to screw up this season. There are a lot of good players available at 23rd, and as long as the Canucks avoid Brandon Carlo in the first round, they will more than likely get a very good prospect.
But what about you? Who would you like to see the Canucks pick? Let us know in the comments section.
