The Canucks took on the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in a contest that saw Jake Virtanen and Ryan Miller return to the line-up. Ryan Miller didn’t actually play but he was there. His teammates took on [Potential Future Canuck] Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canucks managed a point, largely due to another stellar game by Bo Horvat and his youthful pals.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alex Killorn opened the scoring nicely after an unfortunate Alex Edler pinch led to Adam Cracknell attempting to play defense. Regardless of the Canucks’ gaffes, it was a pretty nice goal.

Sven Baertschi scored his first power play goal as a Canuck to open the scoring, but the most exciting part of the goal was Bo Horvat’s insane set-up. Victor Hedman, who is very good, does not look very good here.

Tampa Bay took the lead on another unfortunate play by Edler, who looks as if he’s trying to block Filppula’s shot attempt. Instead, he channels his inner Ibrahimovic and neatly kicks it behind Markstrom.
Horvat was not quite finished, though. With just under three minutes left in regulation, Horvat finished off Ben Hutton’s impressive rush with a perfect shot.

That was enough to send the game to OT, which was pretty fun until Henrik Sedin made a very poor change. This led to a Nikita Kucherov breakaway goal that gave the Lightning the 3-2 OT win.

STATS

NOTES

  • Jake Virtanen did not register a point, but he was certainly not your Junior National Team’s Jake Virtanen tonight. Virtanen started the game with the twins and had multiple noticeable shifts. What is the opposite of a goat?
  • Bo Horvat was once again the most dangerous Canuck on the ice. He’s currently on the first three-game scoring streak of his career and he is doing it in style. Take another look at this. It will only make your day better.
  • Jacob Markstrom had another nice night in net, making a few excellent saves including an especially impressive one on Steven Stamkos in OT.
  • Elliotte Friedman wants everyone to calm down about this, but during the second intermission he mentioned the Canucks potentially having the means to pursue Stamkos in the off-season. Fun!
