The Blue Jackets came in to Vancouver having been severely outplayed last night against the Edmonton Oilers, so tonight’s game should have been a schedule loss. But, as the Canucks were reminded tonight, there’s a reason why they play the games. Vancouver came out flying but stumbled thereafter, as the Jackets put six goals in the back of Vancouver’s net en route to a disappointing 6-2 final.
Read past the jump for a recap.

Highlights

Quick Hits

  • The fact that tonight was a schedule loss for the Blue Jackets sure showed early, but then again it wasn’t exactly like the Jackets showed up last night in Edmonton either. They may have won 4-3 in a shootout, but they were bombed on the shot clock 47-20 by the Edmonton Oilers and traveled last night too.
  • Vancouver came out flying, racking up an astounding 20 shots in the first period alone. But then they let up. Columbus got their feet wet, but found themselves down 2-0 as Vancouver began relinquishing control of the shot clock. From there, the Jackets scored five consecutive goals on Eddie Lack and added a sixth on an empty net, capping off a pretty embarrassing night for Vancouver.
  • Honestly, I can’t think of anything to really say about tonight. After Derek Dorsett’s fight, the Canucks were completely listless against what should be both an inferior and tired opponent. Vancouver looked to be about as engaged as I was, and I was just sitting on my couch letting the disappointment wash over me.
  • Eddie Lack was pulled tonight, but he was due for a stinker. I can’t recall how many times on his recent streak I wrote something like “Lack was good tonight, but who knows how this game would’ve turned out had Patrick Marleau not missed that gaping net!” Well, the Jackets didn’t miss any gaping nets, and the result was ugly.
  • When you wake up tomorrow morning, the Canucks will still be in second place in the Pacific division, Eddie Lack will still be the same goalie that he was yesterday, and Linden Vey will be that much closer to coming out of the lineup in favour of either Brad Richardson or Zack Kassian, so one loss to even a bottom feeder isn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things. This still sucks though. So let’s not do this again soon, okay?

Conclusion

The Canucks will hit the road for one of the biggest tests remaining in their season as they’ll visit the Los Angeles Kings at 1:00 PM Pacific on Saturday. The Canucks have been dummied by the Kings this season, but L.A.  is still on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. It’ll be a tough game for sure, but an important one for both teams.
