The Vancouver Canucks made a minor-league move post-NHL Trade Deadline.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced on Friday morning that the organization has acquired F Jayden Grubbe in exchange for F Josh Bloom.
Grubbe, 23, is a right-shot centreman drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (65th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He spent his draft-plus-one and plus-two seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Red Deer Rebels, where he scored 32 goals and 70 assists for 102 points in 132 games. The Rebels made the playoffs in both of those seasons, where Grubbe added another four goals and 16 assists for 18 points in 22 postseason contests.
Following that season, the 6’3″, 200-lb Calgary, Alberta native was traded to the Oilers in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick (Rasmus Larsson). Grubbe then made the leap to the professional ranks the following season, where he tallied eight goals and six assists for 14 points and 53 penalty minutes in 67 AHL games with the Bakerfield Condors.
He matched his point totals the following season with the Condors, this time scoring two goals and 12 assists for 14 points with 44 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Condors in 2024-25. This season has been more of a struggle for Grubbe, as he was demoted to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL, where he has seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 28 games.
CanucksArmy’s prospect guru, Dave Hall, gave this description of Grubbe:
“A hard-working, two-way forward and former WHL Captain. He’s not a flashy point producer, but will provide solid depth up the middle for the Abbotsford Canucks/Kalamazoo Wings with an emphasis on defensive hockey.”
Bloom, 22, was acquired by the Canucks from the Buffalo Sabres in February of 2023 in exchange for defenceman Riley Stillman. Since joining the Canucks organization, Bloom has been splitting his three seasons between the Abbotsford Canucks and the Kalamazoo Wings.
The Oakville, Ontario, native has been a proficient point producer in the ECHL, posting 35 goals and 34 assists for 69 points in 68 games. But he has had troubles finding that same production in the AHL. Through 35 games in Abbotsford, Bloom has just one goal and two assists for three points.
