Abbotsford Canucks recall Josh Bloom from Kalamazoo

Josh Bloom is heading back to the Abbotsford Canucks.
The club announced Monday morning that they have recalled the 22-year-old forward from the Kalamazoo Wings. The promotion provides a much-needed boost up front after Abbotsford was forced to dress just nine forwards in each of its games over the weekend against the Colorado Eagles.
But the promotion is well deserved, as Bloom returns to the AHL as one of the hottest scorers in the ECHL. After struggling to gain traction and deployment earlier in the season with Abbotsford — recording just one goal through 17 games — Bloom was reassigned to Kalamazoo to regain his footing. The move paid off almost immediately.
Wasting no time, Bloom scored in his debut with the Wings and hasn’t looked back since. Named the ECHL Player of the Month for February, Bloom has recorded 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) in 19 games, leading the league in points-per-game (1.47) among players with at least four games played. He rejoins Abbotsford in the midst of a four-game goal streak, a stretch that includes a four-goal performance and nine points.
Bloom’s success in the ECHL is a continuation of what he showed last season, where he quickly established himself as a top offensive contributor. Across two seasons with Kalamazoo, he now sits at 69 points in 70 games. The next step will be translating that production back to the American Hockey League, where he’s recorded just one goal and three points across 33 games.
Originally drafted in the third round (91st overall) by the Buffalo Sabres in 2021, Bloom joined Vancouver’s system in February 2023 as part of the trade that sent Riley Stillman to Buffalo. Now in the final season of his entry-level contract, Bloom enters an important stretch run as he looks to strengthen his case ahead of restricted free agency this summer and earn a second contract within Vancouver’s system.
The Abbotsford Canucks host the Manitoba Moose for a midweek doubleheader, beginning on Tuesday, March 10th at the Rogers Forum.
