Patrik Allvin wasn&#8217;t the only busy NHL GM as plenty of other organizations were also making deals.</p>
<p>There is still more than 24 hours left before the trade deadline and we&#8217;re surely going to see even more moves. This has been of the craziest NHL trade deadlines in recent memory and there are still some big fish on the board, including a few Canucks wingers that could be dealt.</p>
<p>Here are the biggest storylines from today to catch up on.</p>
<h1><em><strong>Jakob Chychrun moved to the Senators</strong></em></h1>
<p>After lots of speculation and plenty of headlines about Jakob Chychrun and the king&#8217;s ransom that he was going to earn the Arizona Coyotes, the actual return looked relatively pedestrian. The Coyotes moved the left-handed defenceman to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a 2023 first round draft pick, a conditional 2024 second round draft pick, and a 2026 second round draft pick.</p>
<p>The conditions on the 2024 second round draft pick means that it can turn into a top-ten protected first round pick if the Senators reach the Eastern Conference finals this season. That seems unlikely as the Senators currently sit in sixth place in their own divison and will need to fight to even make the playoffs.</p>
<p>The Coyotes notably did not retain any salary in this trade and that is one factor as to the return that they got.</p>
<h1><em><strong>Pittsburgh makes use of new cap space</strong></em></h1>
<p>The Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks had been linked together all week. As the Penguins continued to clear cap space, it became obvious that they were looking to make a big move. When the Senators won the Chychrun sweepstakes, the Penguins were forced to look elsewhere.</p>
<p>However, it wasn&#8217;t in Vancouver where the Penguins would find a deal that worked for them. Instead, they dealt a second round pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forwad Mikael Granlund. He has nine goals and 27 assists for 36 points across 58 games this season and carries a cap hit of $5 million until the conclusion of the 2024-25 NHL season.</p>
<p>There is still a chance that the Penguins make another move before Friday&#8217;s deadline but they will not have nearly as much cap space to play with.</p>
<h1><em><strong>More trades around the league</strong></em></h1>
<p>There were a couple of other significant trades around the league that took place today. Shayne Gostisbehere was traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2026 third round pick. The defenceman has revitalized his career in the desert and will now get to join a Stanley Cup contender.</p>
<p>On Wednesday, centre Lars Eller was traded to the Colorado Avalanche for a 2025 second round pick. The veteran has won a Stanley Cup in the past and will be a good presence in the Avalanche dressing room. The Capitals retained $1.085 million of Eller&#8217;s salary to make the financials work.</p>
<h1>Bruins get Bertuzzi, sign Pastrnak</h1>
<p>The Boston Bruins got busy early Thursday morning, as the trade deadline news cycle refuses to take a beat.</p>
<p>First, they ended the waiting game with winger David Pastrnak locking up their superstar winger on an eight-year contract extension with an $11.25 million cap hit. Pastrnak was in the final year of his team-friendly six-year deal that carried just a $6,666,667 cap hit, and this <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/the-take-less-money-to-win-era-is-over-in-boston-and-thats-ok">extension appears to signal the end of the era</a> of taking less to stay in Boston.</p>
<p>Next, the league-best Bruins bolstered their roster even further, acquiring Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Boston’s protected first-round pick in 2024 and a fourth-round pick in 2025. The Wings will retain $2.375 million of Bertuzzi’s $4.75 million AAV deal that runs until the end of the season. Bertuzzi has four goals and 10 assists through 29 games this season.</p>
