Brenden Dillon wants to come home and sign with his hometown team, the Vancouver Canucks.
Dillon, 29, a left-shot defenceman, is coming off a a five-year, $3.275-m AAV deal signed with the San Jose Sharks, but the club traded him to the Washington Capitals ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Dillon was on TSN 1040 today, where he said “any Surrey kid would love to play in Vancouver, it would be a place I would be interested in.”
This last year, he scored 14 points in 69 games between the Sharks and Capitals. According to hockeyviz.com, Dillon contributed offence at a six percent rate worse than league average, while he brought defence at a 10 percent rate higher than league average.
At 5v5, he contributed a 51 CF%, and an xG% around 53 percent. His goals for percentage came in just under 48 percent on the season.
According to a contract projection from Evolving Wild, Dillon is due for a one-year deal at $1.476-m on the open market.
He could be a cheap depth addition for the Canucks blueline.
