Babych Please – Oct. 27th, 2015

On the ice, the Canucks have had a pretty rough week. Off the ice, the Canucks have had a great time, carving pumpkins, pulling goofy poses, and dressing up as viral jokes.
- Last Tuesday the Canucks attended the Sports Celebrities Festival, and event that raises money for Special Olympics BC and the Canucks For Kids Fund. Daniel Sedin wasn’t jazzy enough to dance with his partner Joanne, but the parade of athletes still had its fun moments.

- Join Alex Burrows on a virtual trip to the minor hockey scene of Pincourt, QC. The best part is when Burrows says, “We were called the Tigers because we had a pretty good team that year,” as if every good team is called the Tigers. Burrows is totally sucking up to Medicine Hat Willie, trying to get back on the top line.
- Ben Hutton is just a bundle of fun. Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun wrote a feature on the rookie defenseman that touches on everything from Hutton’s smile to his financial sense. Hutton also summed up his adjustment to NHL competition with this gem:
- It’s almost Halloween, which means it’s time for costumes! Bo Horvat and his girlfriend went with one of the finest internet sensations from 2015: Katy Perry and the Left Shark from Superbowl XLIX.

- Sven Baertschi decided to go as one-half of everyone’s favourite Lord of the Rings couple – Gandalf and Arwen!

- Ryan Miller and Noureen Dewulf went as Vikings. Noureen looked very Hollywood and Ryan looked very confused!
- Note: I decided not to include a photo of Yannick Weber’s costume because it falls under the umbrella of cultural appropriation. I know that Weber’s girlfriend is a member of the Ulkatcho First Nation community, but Yannick isn’t and therefore probably shouldn’t be wearing an item of cultural significance – such as a first nations headdress – as a costume. For more about why this and other costumes based upon the cultures of historically marginalised groups isn’t okay, here’s a quick and helpful article.
- Halloween also means that it was time for the Canucks’ annual pumpkin carving event at Canuck Place. The twins, Edler, and Horvat went along to help celebrate the hospice’s 20th birthday. Most impressive is definitely Bo’s self-portrait.
