Vancouver Canucks 2019 first-round draft pick Vasily Podkolzin headlined the list of players assigned by the NHL club to Abbotsford Canucks AHL training camp on Tuesday.
Podkolzin, 22, has collected 18 goals and 33 points in 118 career NHL contests with the Canucks. He appeared in 28 AHL games with Abbotsford in 2022–23, racking up seven goals and 18 points.
The Canucks originally selected Podkolzin with the No. 10 overall pick in 2019. The 6’1″ winger is one of eight former Canucks draft picks slated to attend training camp with Abbotsford.
Eighteen members of Abbotsford’s training camp roster appeared in at least one game with the team last season. Abbotsford has also invited three players to camp on tryout deals.
The AHL Canucks will hold their training camp in Chilliwack, BC from October 4 to 7. On the final day of camp, the team will play host to the inaugural Abbotsford Canucks Minor Hockey Festival, which will involve the Canucks playing a full scrimmage.
Abbotsford is slated to open its 2023–24 slate of games with a back-to-back road set against the Laval Rocket on October 13 and 14. They’ll follow it up with home games against the Calgary Wranglers on October 20 and 21.
