Canucks “still in the mix” for Calvin de Haan, haven’t reached out to Subban’s camp: report

1 year agoThe Vancouver Canucks are reportedly still in the mix for free agent defenceman Calvin de Haan.
This, according to Rick Dhaliwal, who said on Donnie and Dhali – The Team this morning that the Canucks remained in the mix for the 31-year-old.
“Checked in with Calvin de Haan this morning. The Canucks intrigue this player, he really thinks Vancouver’s a good spot for him,” said Dhaliwal. “He could be a utility guy at 5, he can play the right side and we all know the problems on the right side in Vancouver.
“He might go in the next few days. Vancouver as of this morning is still in the mix… I think something happens with him, Calvin de Haan, in the next few days.”
de Haan, a native of Carp, Ontario, spent the last three seasons playing with the Chicago Blackhawks where in 142 games he scored six goals and 24 points. Despite the low offensive upside, de Haan has been solid in his own zone. According to hockeyviz.com, he provides even-strength defence at a one percent rate above league average.
While he is a left-shot, de Haan has played both sides on the backend in the past.
In the same segment, Dhaliwal noted the Canucks hadn’t reached out to the camp of free agent defenceman P.K. Subban.
“I believe his age is a problem,” he said, with Donnie adding the Canucks likely don’t have the cap space to sign Subban.
