Canucks players meet Ryp the puppy before taking off for Edmonton

1 year agoThe Vancouver Canucks got to meet their newest teammate on the airport tarmac on Tuesday before jetting off to Edmonton for the season opener.
Last week, the Canucks introduced Ryp, their team puppy for the 2022–23 season. The Canucks will help raise and train Ryp, named after the late Rick Rypien, as part of a partnership with BC Guide Dogs.
After his time with the Canucks is up, Ryp will work with a visually impaired client, a child with autism, or a veteran/First Responder living with OSI-PTSD.
But for now, he’s the Canucks’ best friend.
It’s safe to say the Canucks and their fans are going to have too much fun getting to know Ryp this season.
As a reminder, here’s what the Canucks said about Ryp in his online reveal:

We know Ryp will make a tremendous impact on the life of his forever teammate following his training.A hockey hero, a son, a brother, an uncle, a teammate, a friend – former Canuck Rick Rypien meant so much to so many. He accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time, and has left a legacy of support that has helped countless fans around the word through the Hockey Talks program. To honour the work Rick had intended to do, Hockey Talks was created to help provide resources to kids and youth experiencing mental health issues, and to have it talked about like any other illness or injury. The Canucks will open the 2022–23 season on the road against the Edmonton Oilers at 7:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday. After four more games on the road, they’ll host the Buffalo Sabres for their home opener at Rogers Arena on Oct. 22.
