Report: Canucks “are going to work hard” to bring Brock Boeser back

2 years agoThe Vancouver Canucks are going to work hard to re-sign pending restricted free agent forward @Brock Boeser, according to a report by Rick Dhaliwal.
Dhaliwal discussed Boeser’s future with co-host Don Taylor during Friday’s edition of Donnie & Dhali – The Team on CHEK TV. When asked if Thursday’s win over the Los Angeles Kings might have been Boeser’s last home game as a Canucks, Dhaliwal was emphatic in his opposition to that idea.
“I don’t think so. Since he’s got here, all he’s ever done is score goals,” Dhaliwal said. “It’s tough trading goal-scorers, Donnie, and especially guys you’ve drafted, it’s really tough.”
Boeser is in the final season of the three-year, $5.875 million-AAV contract he signed with the Canucks in 2019. As an RFA this summer, he’ll need to be tendered a one-year qualifying offer worth $7.5 million; according to Dhaliwal, both short-term and long-term options are on the table for Boeser and the Canucks.
What is apparently not being considered, however, is a trade involving the 25-year-old winger, as Taylor and Dhaliwal discussed.
DON: Rick, what about the possibility of a [Brock Boeser] trade? What are you hearing?RICK: I’m not hearing that. Everything I’m hearing is they are going to work hard to try and get Brock Boeser re-signed. […] The only urgency is with Boeser, and what I’ve been told is, internally, they want this guy back, they want to get it done, and they’re going to work hard to get it done.
Boeser has 23 goals and 46 points in 70 games with the Canucks in 2021–22, his fifth full season with the team. Former Canucks general manager Jim Benning selected Boeser in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
In 323 career regular-season games with the Canucks, Boeser has 121 goals and 256 points. If he were to accept his $7.5 million qualifying offer for the 2022–23 season, Boeser would become the Canucks’ highest-paid forward.
The Canucks will close out their 2021–22 regular-season schedule on Friday evening when they visit the Edmonton Oilers at 6:00 p.m. PT.
