Comets Sign Cameranesi?
alt
The Utica Comets appear to be bringing back a familiar face as ECHL Transactions has former Comets forward Tony Cameranesi being loaned from the Manchester Monarchs to the Comets. That generally indicates that the player has signed a PTO with the AHL club, though no confirmation has come from the Comets yet.
Cameranesi spent 34 games with the Comets on PTO, (professional tryout) deals last season, scoring three goals and five assists. He saw some time on the power play and showed an ability to make plays.
Cameranesi plays the middle and may have been brought in to fill in for Cam Darcy while he recovers from the injury that saw him leave Friday’s game against Hartford. The Comets don’t have a lot of depth in the middle with Hamilton and Darcy injured and Gaudette up with the Canucks. Bringing Cameranesi in helps as he should have a decent grasp on the systems from last season and will be familiar with some of the players around him.
The Comets have Brendan Bradley in Kalamazoo, who can play the middle, but I believe that he is banged up at the moment as well.
Could an Andrew Cherniwchan PTO be right around the corner too?
The Comets are back in action on Wednesday, November 14th when they hit the road to Belleville for game number 16 of their season.
