Senators vs Canucks | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Canucks’ defense and goaltending woes continued on Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Vancouver has the worst goals-against average in the NHL at 4.71 and has allowed at least five goals in each of its last four games. And offensively, Elias Pettersson’s early-season slump with only one goal and one assist through the team’s first seven games isn’t helping either. The Canucks rank 24th in the NHL in power play percentage (13.8%) and 23rd in penalty killing (73.5%).
In their last 12 games at home against the Senators, the Canucks are 9-3 on the moneyline per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Ottawa opened its 2021 season with a surprising 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since then, the Senators are 0-3-1 over their last four games including three straight losses to the Winnipeg Jets in which they were outscored 14-7. Ottawa ranks 21st in the NHL in goals for with 2.8 per game and second worst only to Vancouver in goals against allowing four goals per game. The Senators’ early struggles aren’t too much of a surprise as the team went just 25-34-12 last season.
Monday night’s total is set at six goals at online sports betting sites. The OVER is 6-1 in Vancouver’s last seven games.
This three-game set against the Senators could be just what the doctor ordered for the slumping Canucks. Vancouver’s struggling goaltending tandem will face a less potent offense than the ones it has faced so far, and even if they continue to struggle, the Canucks could just out-shoot them. Vancouver needs to get things going soon with the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs already up to 10 points each at the top of the North division.
