Scenes from morning skate: Vasily Podkolzin gets a turn with Elias Pettersson

The Vancouver Canucks are in Philadelphia to do battle with the Flyers, who’s most notable recent addition is Zack MacEwen.
After willing their way to a point against the Edmonton Oilers in their season opener, the Canucks are feeling confident and felt like they got their season started off on the right foot.
Here’s how they lined up at morning skate in Philly:
Projected lineup
- Vasily Podkolzin skated on Elias Pettersson’s wing this morning. Head coach Travis Green talks a lot about putting players in the right positions to succeed and this is clearly the thought process of putting a guy like Podkolzin with two skilled players in Pettersson and Miller.
- Once again, Jack Rathbone and Kyle Burroughs will form the Canucks’ third defence pairing as they did in the season opener against Edmonton.
- Brock Boeser skated again today, but likely will not play tonight. He’s close to returning.
What was said
Tyler Myers had what is undoubtedly the most memorable moment of his time as a Canuck so far when he laid out Duncan Keith on Wednesday night. Social media was going nuts as Myers avenged Daniel Sedin, over ten years in the making.
“I was already coming down the wall,” said Myers of the hit. “My initial thought was hoping to get the puck. I realized happened within a split second that he was going to get to the puck first and I just happened to be in a position to finish a hit.”
“I have heard a little bit about it,” Myers said when asked if he’s aware of why Canucks fans dislike Duncan Keith so strongly. “I know there’s a history, I don’t know that year it happened, but I have heard a little bit about it.”

Kyle Burroughs made his Canucks regular season debut on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Vancouver native described it as a “dream come true.”
“It was special, you know things come full circle.” said Burroughs. “I think I’ve said it a lot the past couple of days, I was dreaming of it when I was a kid playing mini hockey in my living room. It meant a lot to me, my family, and I’m just happy to be here to try to help the team.”
Burroughs added that he wore number seven growing up because of Brendan Morrisson, and said that to this day, every time he steps out of the box, he’s thinking about Todd Bertuzzi and how cool it would be to score a breakaway goal of his own after coming out of the box.
“Those three guys were fun to watch and you know they made a lot of good memories for Vancouver and for myself.”
Travis Green confirmed that Demko would be starting tonight and that Rathbone and Burroughs are in once again.
