Report: Oilers close to signing Evander Kane to one-year deal with full NMC

Evander Kane has reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Vancouver Canucks’ Pacific Division rivals, the Edmonton Oilers.

Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Thursday morning that the NHL would soon announce a decision as to whether or not Kane would be suspended for reportedly flying to Vancouver while COVID positive.

The league then released their findings Thursday afternoon, and decided not to take any further action against Kane due to “insufficient evidence”.

Here are the details of Kane’s new deal with the OIlers — which will carry a cap hit of $2.094 million and a full no-move clause.

A native of Vancouver, Kane was suspended by the NHL for 21 games earlier this season after he produced a fake vaccination card in an attempt to skirt the league’s rules. Following his suspension, Kane was assigned to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda playing games solely in California. In five games, he scored two goals and tallied eight points.

Kane has had all sorts of off-ice issues highlighted recently, including his partner making social media posts about his alleged gambling addiction and more.

The deal is expected to be made official sometime today.
