Report: KHL free agent Andrei Kuzmenko to consider Vancouver as potential NHL destination

2 years agoThe Vancouver Canucks will “definitely be considered” as a potential National Hockey League destination for Russian free agent Andrei Kuzmenko, according to a report by Rick Dhaliwal.
In conversation with Matt Sekeres and Blake Price on Friday’s edition of Sekeres and Price, Dhaliwal indicated that the Canucks are on the list of teams that have already had discussions with Kuzmenko’s camp in recent weeks.
Andrei Kuzmenko — he’s done in the KHL playoffs, 53 points, 45 games. Vancouver — 25 teams, Matt and Blake, have reached out. Vancouver management loves this guy going back to their Pittsburgh days. Agent Dan Milstein has been in contact with Allvin and Rutherford in the last few weeks. He will sign where he gets the best chance to crack a roster, coaching will also be important to him. Source says Vancouver will definitely be considered. There’s going to be an interview process that starts in early May. Getting the feeling, don’t expect the decision soon.
Kuzmenko, 26, is a 5’11”, 194-lb. left wing who scored 20 goals and added 33 assists in 45 games with SKA St. Petersburg this season.
He added 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 16 playoff contests en route to a second consecutive conference finals loss to CSKA Moscow.
Only ex-Vegas Golden Knights centre Vadim Shipachyov (24 goals, 67 points in 48 games) finished ahead of Kuzmenko in the KHL scoring race this season. Kuzmenko’s contract with SKA expired after the end of the 2021–22 season.
