Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been selected to play at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday evening.
The NHL selected the initial crop of 32 players — one from each team — to take part in the weekend of festivities in Toronto from Feb. 1 to 3.
Hughes, 24, is set to make his second NHL All-Star appearance. The newly-minted Canucks captain has 10 goals and 46 points in 37 games this year and has helped power Vancouver into one of the top spots in the Western Conference.
With the 32 initial selections now public, fans will be able to select the remaining 12 players by submitting ballots on the NHL’s website. Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, and Thatcher Demko are among the notable Canucks players eligible to be voted in.
This year’s All-Star Game will see the return of the ever-popular fantasy draft format, in which two captains will select players to populate their teams without conforming to division or conference restrictions. The fantasy draft will take place on Feb. 1, with the Skills Competition following on Feb. 2 and the All-Star Game on Feb. 3.
